Instructions Page

On this page, I'll include one or more sets of instructions that may help others get involved in or become more proficient at my hobby.

These instructions are specified a lot better in the CAPTIVE CARE section. However these are just general tips that outline care/obtaining a spotted salamander. It'll be broken down into two sections: Them in the Wild, and captive care.

Spotted salamanders in the wild:

In the wild, the spotted salamander is, as a general rule, not seen out of the breeding season. The only time in and out of the breeding season you have a real chance at seeing them is at night. Look under logs, rocks etc. in a forest, preferably during the rain. And of course use a flashlight. Look for them, also, to be out on the forest floor during the rain hunting for insects.

To summarize the above, look for these salamanders primarily from the 3rd week of March to mid spring.

Please dis regard the photo..it came with the site. Ok so CAPTIVE CARE: House in: Something with the floor space of a 5 g. tank or more. House in spagnum moss or dirt from the area you got them from. Add leaves, bark etc. to make it seem more natural. Feed crickets, blackworms, earthworms etc.

Terminology

The only terms you might have any trouble with is spagnum moss. Just ask at a store and they should have it.
